medicine: the story of Harry M. Hoxsey, a former coal miner who, in
1924, operated a number of cancer clinics using an herbal concoction
handed down by his grandfather. But that history soon becomes obscured
by an ongoing battle between Hoxsey and the then newly formed AMA, a
battle which raged from 1924 to 1960, with much of it played out in the
media. Hoxsey eventually won a slander suit against Dr. Morris Fishbein,

curing cancer, because there were so many recovered patients testifying
on his behalf. Hoxsey claimed that AMA officials went after him because

treatment to Mexico where American patients have sought help ever since.
The human aspect of this program, therefore, is the story of the one

thought is given to the imposition of psychological abuse or the
persistent and often capricious measures of establishing control. Even
attitudes regarding physical punishment become morally blurred.
In American history, this mentality resulted in atrocities such as
slavery and the subjugation of women. What is surprising to many is that
the most oppressed class of people in America today is children. The
widespread belief that children are the most privileged is used to
justify their maltreatment. The War On Kids exposes the ways this
oppression manifests itself in the school environment, and how American
society has succeeded in creating an underclass comprised of children.
While many documentaries have shed light on the chronic educational
famine of the inner city-child, there has been no film to date that
deals with the inescapable oppressive abuse that all children in
America, regardless of race or class, face. Through zero tolerance, the
excessive and invasive use of security measures, abuse of prescription

School Security likens the metal detectors and surveillance cameras on
campus to those in prisons but reports no resulting reduction in school
violence. (3) The War on Drugs features a SWAT team storming a school on
the pretext that drugs were being sold on campus but found no drugs and
terrified nearly one hundred pupils who were sniffed by police dogs
while forced to lie on the floor. (4) The segment Administrators and
Teachers argues that children are the victims of control freaks. (5)
Pharmaceutical Drugs, the most important contribution of the film,
points out that pupils falsely deemed “disruptive” are over-prescribed
Ritalin and other medicines, resulting in psychological harm, including
the effect of drugs on the student responsible for the Columbine
Massacre. (6) The Public Education segment points out that schools are
under siege by corporations, evangelicals, and test requirements that
undermine education while support services are cut. (7) Homework is
attacked as an undesirable, ineffective chore that has little
demonstrable educational value unless linked to class-work performed on
the very same day. (8) Socialization, finally, argues that students in
classrooms are regimented, whereas out of the classroom they gather
together in cliques that demand conformity and antipathy to out-groups.
